UTME: JAMB assures candidates of hitch-free exam in Benue

- JAMB said the Unified Tertiary Examinations (UMTE) will be conducted in Benue state despite the recurrent herdsmen attacks

- The examination board said during examinations two security personnel had been assigned to each centre.

- The examination will be conducted in Makurdi, Gboko, Katsina-Ala, Oju and Otukpo

The Benue coordinator of Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB), Oise Ofala, has assured candidates writing the Unified Tertiary Examinations (UMTE) in the state of hitch-free examination.

Ofala on Friday, March 9, in Makurdi, said that JAMB staff involved in the examination, as well as security personnel detailed to monitor the exercise, had been assigned to the centres, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

He said the Computer Based Test (CBT) would be conducted in 12 centres spread across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The coordinator said that two security personnel had been assigned to each centre and assured that the backup coverage would accommodate any computer challenge during the examination.

But he decline to respond to our question on the other security measures that have been put in place in case of emergency.

He said: “We are 100% ready and prepared for the examination; two security personnel are assigned to every centre. We are not relying on public power supply as we have our generators.

Every centre has the capacity to carry 250 candidates per session and some centres can carry up to three sessions per day, ” he said.

Ofala, however, declined to mention the number of candidates writing the examination in the state.

“I do not have that statistics, the whole thing was done before my arrival. As you can see, I just took over as the state coordinator,” he said.

We previously reported that JAMB released the full list of the examination centres across the country ahead of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which starts on Friday, March 9 to March 17.

About 1.6 million candidates are expected to write the examination in 602 centres across the country.

The spokesperson of the board Fabian Benjamin said the notification slip also carries the time and date allocated to each candidate.

Benjamin said the candidate should ensure they print before Friday noting that the board will not reschedule the exam.

Nigerians express mixed feelings as JAMB reduces admission cut-off to 120.
