Psychiatry is a field of medicine and psychiatrists are medical doctors specialised in mental health. The focus of psychiatry is diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, generalised anxiety disorder and clinical depression.

Psychology is the study of human mind as a whole and it goes beyond classified mental health disorders. Psychology is focused on research e.g. understanding how advertising works. Clinical psychologists can also treat patients, but primarily through counselling, rarely prescribing medications.
